Louisiana descendants of Cristobal FALCON Sr. of the Canary Islands

Notes

243. Marie Antonia Damasa FALCON

Marriage: As Delores Elizabeth was becoming increasingly ill, Marie Antonia Damasa Falcon moved into the house to take care of her and the children.  After Delores' death, Joseph married Marie with consent from the courts.

BIOGRAPHY: Maria spoke French but would only speak Spanish if she didn't want you to know what she was saying.  If she was hiding something, or talking about something personal, she would say it in spanish so the children wouldn't understand.
Maria would be sitting by the fireplace with a big apron on with a pocket full of pecans while dipping tobacco but she would never dip in front of anyone.  Unfortunately, all of the kids would have to line up to kiss her when they arrived, dredding that her mouth would smell of dipping tobacco.  They would recall seeing the dip juice run down the sides of her mouth.  Maria wore a long dress and would wipe her mouth on it.  She would pretend to wide dust from her dress but it was leftover tobacco.

Joseph Felix FALCON Sr.

Children: Did not let his children have an education, although he was highly educated himself.

Emigration: Moved from Donaldsonville, Louisiana to Rayne, Louisiana in 1870 and started line of Falcon descendants there.  The move to Rayne may have been in part due to better cultivating lands of the prairies, unlike the marsh of the Donandsonville area around Bayou LaFourche.
